Class 2 Information
Curriculum Overview – To see what Class 2 will be learning this term please see the document below.
Class 2 – Parent Curriculum Overview – Autumn 1
Individual Targets – All children will be given curriculum targets for reading, writing and mathematics.
Home Reading Books – In school, your child will spend three days working with their phonics teacher on a phonics book related to the sounds they are currently learning. At the end of those three days, the book that they have read in school and a ‘Book Bag Book’ will be sent home as Home Reading books. Children should keep these books for three days, re-reading both books each day. Re-reading books is an important part of developing fluency in reading. At the end of the three days (i.e. on the fourth day), reading books should be returned to school so that they can be changed. As the phonics programme in school is a three day programme, this means that it is necessary to send books home on different days of the week. To ensure that your child has their reading books in school on the day that they need to be changed, we suggest your child brings both of their reading books with their reading record into school every day. It is extremely important that our children are reading both at home and in school on a daily basis. Please make sure that either you or your child also fill in the reading record book. To find out more about how to support your child with their reading at home, please see the information leaflet for parents below.
Reading Booklet 2 – Information for Parents
Spellings – In Year 1 and 2 we have a set of words that are important for us to be able to spell. Please click on the link below to see what they are and practise these words at home with your child.
Common Exception Words Years 1 and 2
Numbots – Learning basic number skills is very important and plays a huge part towards a child’s ability to learn and carry out more difficult mathematical concepts. All children are provided with a Numbots login and should use this regularly to practise and develop their basic number skills. The more children practise, the better they get and the more rewards they earn.
Homework – Homework tasks will be assigned on Friday and should be completed in their homework book any time up until the following Wednesday. Homework may also take the form of practising skills using online games. The homework that the children receive is to reinforce/consolidate the work already covered in class. Each week your child will receive either a piece of English or Maths work to complete along with their spellings.
Parent Consultations – We offer an opportunity for parents to discuss pupil progress with their class teacher twice a year. Appointments are made via our Arbor communication system during the Autumn and Spring Terms which allow parents to indicate a preferred appointment time and date.
PE Bags/Days – PE days in Class 2 are Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure pupils bring their PE bags to school at the beginning of each half term and leave it in school and that they include both outdoor and indoor PE kits, which they will then bring home every half term. *Please note: on PE days earrings must be removed for health and safety reasons and PE sessions will currently take place outdoors wherever possible. If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE activities, please send a note to the class teacher.
Uniform – Please could you ensure that all items of uniform are clearly labelled. Any pieces of uniform that are found unnamed will be placed in the Key Stage 1 lost property box.
Water Bottles – The children should each bring in a water bottle to school. This should be cleaned and filled at home and taken home each day. Please ensure it is clearly named.
Newsletter – You should receive a weekly newsletter every Friday. Copies are emailed and also available to download from the School News section of the website.
