Have a look at what we’ve been learning…
Poetry Week and World Book Day
This week Class 4 have been exploring a range of poets and styles of poetry. On Monday we read and re-wrote a nonsense poem written by Spike Milligan called On the Ning Nang Nong, Tuesday we explored the features of kenning poetry and the children all wrote their own titled ‘Guess Who?’, after a busy morning of cricket and maths on Wednesday we spent the afternoon learning about limericks and the children all wrote their own limerick about a young girl called Claire. To make the most of our World Book Day celebrations the children were all tasked with writing an acrostic poem titled ‘READING IS ACE’ which they thought carefully about to make sure that all the parts of their poem were linked to all things book/reading related. On our final day of poetry exploration, the children practiced performance poetry continuing to use previously learned skills to ensure they considered the tone, volume, pitch and enunciation in their voices.
I would like to take the opportunity to say how incredible proud both myself and Mrs. Fletcher were of the very high standard of diorama produced by Class 4. All the entries are currently on display and in our school library for all to enjoy (video attached for your enjoyment) and will be returned home with the children at the end of this half-term. As promised, all entries were judged (blindly), votes were collated and the three winners were announced on Friday in our school assembly.
On the Ning Nang Nong
Inspired by Spike Milligan re-written by Ding Hao.
On the Ning Nang Nong
Where the dogs all bark wrong!
And the snakes all hiss boo!
There’s a Nong Nang Ning
Where the donkeys bray for a sweet thing!
And the fryers jibber jabber joo.
On the Nong Ning Nang
All the bears growl when gongs bang!
And you just can’t stop them when they do!
So it’s Ning Nang Nong!
Dogs always bark wrong!
Nong Nang Ning!
Donkeys bray for a sweet thing!
Nong Ning Nang!
Bears growl when gongs bang!
What a noisy place to belong,
Is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!

There Once was a Young Girl called Claire.
There once was a young girl called Claire,
Who had a flighty young grey mare,
It went insane,
Because it was in pain,
And knocked over the stable chair.

There Once was a Young Girl called Claire.
There once was a young girl called Claire,
Who had very curly hair,
She went to the shop,
And looked like a mop,
And was worried that everyone would stare.

There Once was a Young Girl called Claire.
There once was a young girl called Claire,
Who loved to brush her hair,
She went for a swim,
But the water looked grim,
So she played Truth or Dare?

Science Challenge – Magnets and Forces
Thank you for joining us for our class assembly on Wednesday – we were very proud of ourselves and the nerves didn’t beat us!
We thought we’d share our science lesson with you this week as it was a lot of fun! We have been learning about magnets and forces and this week; Mrs. Parsons set us a challenge to navigate a maze using a paperclip and magnet. Easy we hear you say…well, there were rules; neither us nor the magnet could touch either the paperclip or magnet!
To test our skills, we then went head to head to see who could make the metal bell follow the track the quickest using only the magnet (it wasn’t allowed to touch the bell). We had to think about a strategy that meant the force of attraction was strong so they bell would be pulled along the surface quickly.
Hancock Museum Visit
We had an amazing time at the Hancock Museum and it has helped to inspire lots of discussion and interest in our topic. All things Egyptian have been embedded across lots of our learning this half term. I hope you enjoy hearing about it all as the weeks go by. If you keep checking in to our page I will endeavour to upload pictures and examples of the children’s work 😊.
To get us started here are a selection of pictures of the children exploring the museum. If you spot your child in the pictures please do ask them questions about what they were doing and what they learned.
