Have a look at what we’ve been learning…
Robinwood
End of Year Reward
We had a fantastic morning on the inflatable obstacle course and the penalty shoot-out! We did races through the course and competed for points on the penalty game. We were worn out by dinner time it was so busy!
Olympics Workshop
In this session, we learned about the history of the Olympic Games and why they were founded. We learned about the Olympic motto, “Faster, Higher, Stronger” and then staged our own mini-Olympics. Great Britain, Canada and Brazil were our 3 teams but Great Britain won!
Problem Solving
Every week, we complete an N-Rich problem in KS2. Across the year we complete problems that involve all six key skills – such as working backwards, visualizing and working systematically.
Year 6 have presented the solutions for their favorite problems they have completed this year and have made a great corridor display.
Ice Cream Van
As a treat for their hard work on their SATs, Year 6 had an ice cream van visit the school yard at dinnertime!
Shakespeare Workshop
Year 6 completed a session exploring Macbeth through drama which included a series of freezeframes, showing emotions without speaking and a class reading. The class thought the Shakespeare play was great fun when brought to life in this way, as every scene is so action-packed.
Easter Egg Decorating
There were many fabulous entries to our annual Easter Egg decorating competition. In Year 6, Zhixuan won 1st place for her “Egg-stronaut” moon landing scene and Mason was runner-up with his school-based creation.
All Stars Cricket
We have completed a Cricket Taster experience with catching, bowling and striking activities. The class listened well, worked quickly and showed the coach some impressive skills.
Forest School
Year 6 have completed a half term of forest schools. Activities have included den building, whittling, wide games, fire lighting and many more.
Sebastian said, “It was fun and educational. It actually gave me a chance to build new friendships in my class. My favourite activity was denbuilding.”
Christmas Crafts
Class 6 have made Gonks to sell at the Christmas Fair. The hat is made by wrapping a coloured wool around a small piece of kitchen roll tube and the beard is tied together and then glued into the hat. Finally, a pom pom is glued in place as the nose. 30 gonks were made and all sold.
Story Train Project
We have been working with local artists to design silhouettes of Weardale-inspired scenes to be displayed in the Christmas Story Train. Our work will be mounted in the luggage racks of a now static train carriage at Wolsingham Station and complimented by backlighting and a model railway.
Intra-House Dodgeball Competition
In our house teams, we had a fast-paced Dodgeball battle for team points. The four teams played a knockout version of the game. The class did a great job of playing fairly and following the rules.
Class Assembly
Year 6 gladly took on the challenge of using their class assembly to show off their French learning. They presented facts on France, a song (Tête, épaules, genoux, et pied…) and role plays on a French café and a French classroom. Parents were tested on what they had learnt by Kahoot. The children were praised for their effort to speak their French clearly and their accents. Well done Year 6 and thankyou to all parents who attended.
Electricity
In Science, we have learned to draw circuit diagrams correctly and researched who the pioneering scientists were in this field. We have investigated voltage and current and developed our own investigations into resistance using a range of equipment including buzzers and motors. As an extension task, we researched and discussed what a variable resistor is and what its application is in the devices we use at home.
Handball Festival
Class 6 attended a handball festival at Parkside. The aim of this fast paced game is to pass the ball and shoot into the goal but you are only allowed 3 steps and 3 seconds with the ball. Class 6 entered four teams of seven players, two competing in an “A” league and two in a “B” league. Our yellow team in the “A” league comfortably won all 6 of their matches, winning their league overall. It was a great competition for Wolsingham as one of our teams triumphed overall in the “B” league too. Well done Class 6!
