Have a look at what we’ve been learning…
KS1 Sports Day
Year 1 and Year 2 children had a wonderful time at KS1 Sports Day. The children were cheered along by parents and grandparents as they completed races. All the children tried their best as they ran, jumped, crawled and collected things. The children were rewarded with an ice-lolly for all their efforts. Thank you to all those who came along to support the children.
KS1 Train Ride
As part of our history topic KS1 children have been looking at the changes over time in our local area. We have studied transport as part of this topic. This week we have been lucky enough to go on a train ride from Wolsingham to Stanhope and back. The children were thrilled and talked a lot about the differences between travelling by car and by train.
Science
In science this half term we have been learning about animals and what they eat. This meant we looked at food chains, we starting by drawing our own food chain before creating the food chain using paper tubes. The different size paper tubes represented the different parts of the food chain including the producer and various consumers. We then presented our food chains to the rest of the class.
Science Walk
This week, Class 3 went on a walk down to Demesne Hill for science. After looking at the difference between a habitat and a microhabitat, we went for a walk to see what plants and animals we could find in different microhabitats. On our walk, we found a variety of different plants and animals including slugs, ladybirds, elderflower and nettles. We then looked at what microhabitats these were found in.
Visit to Gibside
On Tuesday Class 1 and 2 went to Gibside, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We started our day with a walk through the park spotting wild deer roaming in the grounds before heading to the den building area. Here the children developed their engineering skills by trying to create freestanding structures with the sticks and logs lying around. We then followed the animal trail down the low ropes course allowing us to practice our balancing and strength skills. We ended the day in the amazing play area complete with an ice cream.
Beep Beep Day
On Wednesday 24th April we celebrated Beep, Beep Day! Raising awareness of road safety. The children sang a song to help them remember to fasten their seat belts. They also practiced crossing the road safely, holding hands as well as consistently looking and listening.
We then looked at why wearing a seatbelt is important and completed an experiment involving a toy car crashing into the wall. We really enjoyed participating in this and learned about the importance of road safety.
Red Nose Day
Class 3 had a great time raising money for Red Nose Day. We started the day by learning all about Comic Relief and where the money that is raised goes. In English we wrote acrostic poems for the word Comic Relief, some of these were amazing!
In the afternoon, we went into the hall where we were able to have a go on lots of different stalls, winning plenty of sweets and treats.
Soup Tasting
In class 3, we have been trying different soups which included tomato. Vegetable, chicken and minestrone soup. Some of us really enjoyed trying the different soups and even found some soups we didn’t know we liked!
Children In Need
On Friday, we raised money and awareness for children in need. We started the day by completing an escape the bake sale room in Maths before moving into the hall for the fair where the children enjoyed various games.
