Have a look at what we’ve been learning…
Science
Class 3’s science topic has been magnets and forces this half term. They have very much enjoyed exploring what a magnet can do and this week they looked at how they can use a magnet to make a compass and were then able to work out the four directions in our classroom.
Multi-skills Event
Class 3 visited Wolsingham School on Monday to take part in a multi-skills event. They joined children from other schools in carrying out a range of fun activities. They got the chance to practise their throwing, aiming and striking skills and did a brilliant job earning lots of points for their team!
Class 3 are SMART!
Class 3 have been thinking about Internet Safety Day (7th February) and looked at how we know if a website is safe or not. After lots of discussion and exploration of different websites, the class looked at a range of ‘fake’ website addresses with explanations and they had to decide if they thought they were safe to use or not. They worked with a friend to sort the cards and did a great job – Class 3 know how to be internet SMART!
Class 3 visit St Thomas’s RC Church
As part of their work in RE, Class 3 need to compare and contrast the churches in our town. To start the work, they paid a visit to St Thomas’s Roman Catholic Church to find out what it meant to be a Roman Catholic and what artefacts they have. The children noticed a lot of familiar features in the church and asked some very good questions.
Class 3 Writing
Class 3 are focusing on bedtime stories in their English lessons. They started by looking at each other’s favourite bedtime stories and then researching ones that can be watched and listened to on the internet; including Cbeebies. Their research looked at the themes of stories, type of language used and other common features. They are now in the process of designing their main character and thinking about the vocabulary that they will use when they come to write their own story. Watch this space for the end results!
Bird Watching
Class 3 enjoyed their time bird watching on Thursday with Alexa from the British Ecological Society. After discussing and identifying the types of birds that we were likely to see the class split up into groups with their binoculars and spotter guides to see what they could see. Some of the birds we spotted were pigeons, crows, blackbirds and house sparrows.
Design Technology
Class 3’s focus in Design and Technology this half term is levers. They started their work by looking at levers in everyday life and were surprised how many they found. Their design brief is to design and make a moving Christmas card so, this week the children researched and tried making a range of levers.
