This week, it was the start of our after school clubs. In sketching, the group chose something they were interested in sketching, so we could think about what we wanted to do in future session. They produced some fantastic work!
Eco Team
Writing our Eco Code
Our school’s Eco Team met this week to discuss ways in which we can help the environment whilst in school. We discussed current issues surrounding the price of gas and electricity and how we can make savings in school to save money and energy. The team then worked on designing their own posters to display around the school to remind everyone of how they can help. Some of the ideas that we came up with were:
- Turning lights off when we don’t need them
- Turning monitors off when the computers aren’t being used
- Making sure doors are kept closed
- Making sure taps are turned off properly
- Try not to waste too much paper and remember to recycle

KS1 – Christmas Party
Key Stage 1 children had a fabulous time at their Christmas party on Wednesday. Everyone looked spectacular in their party clothes and lots of fun was had playing games and dancing. A lovely end to a busy half term.
KS1 Performance
Key Stage 1 told the story of Santa’s Hat for their Christmas performance this year. They have worked so hard this half term to perfect their words and actions and they performed brilliantly on Thursday! Well done to all involved!
Pride Not Prejudice
Our newest Pupil Voice group is linked to promoting equality and diversity as we aim to receive the silver award in the Educate and Celebrate program.
This week, our Class 5 and 6 were tasked with coming up with a logo for our newly formed group named ‘Pride Not Prejudice’. We had some fantastic logo ideas and have shared some of them below. Our overall winner was Jaina who came up with the fabulous logo design to the left!
The children have also been working hard at finding ways to make our school even more welcoming to all people and even looking at some of our policies to see whether they are inclusive.
KS2 Cross Country Competition
24 children from KS2 attended a cross country event at Staindrop Academy. Wolsingham pupils were very determined and competed with a great spirit. Our Y3/4 boys’ team finished 1st overall and Y3/4 girls’ team finished 2nd overall. Each race had over 200 pupils in, so a special recognition is deserved for Xander Brown (5th position in his race), Callum Goodfellow (10th in his race) and Darcy Fearns (10th in her race).
Eco Group
It was great to get back into our pupil voice groups this week and the Eco Group were raring to go. Our first meeting gave us the opportunity to discuss the kinds of things we would like to do over the next year and we decided who would be our litter pickers for around school. In our next meeting we will be discussing how to save energy and introducing the school once again to our beloved Eco Bear!
Garden Gang
The gardening team got off to a good start on Tuesday in their after school club as they worked their magic in the school wildlife garden. We noticed that over the summer holidays a lot of plants had grown over the footpaths, so we set off tidying those up and cutting back the big branches so people can move around the area safely. Some of the team reassembled the seating area whilst others did a litter pick and picked all fruits that have grown. We found lots of apples and delicious blackberries.
Keyboard
Last week, we were lucky to have a special visitor in our assembly to show us how the keyboard worked and to do some performances on it. The whole school even got to sing to ‘Green Green Grass’ by George Ezra as it was played on the keyboard. All KS2 children should now have received a leaflet about keyboard lessons, if you are interested in signing your child up to lessons. Some KS2 children will also have received a letter about violin lessons too.
