Vindolanda

Class 5 visited Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum as part of their history work on Roman Britain. They enjoyed exploring the ruins of the town and the fort and learnt lots about the Roman soldiers lived. They saw lots of interesting artefacts that archaeologists have discovered at the site over the years, including shoes, tools, boxing gloves and coins.

At the Roman Army museum, they had a lesson from a holographic teacher in the Roman classroom, where they learnt to speak some Latin phrases and used Roman numerals. They explored the museum learning about the different roles in the army, the weapons they used and what they wore. Everyone had a go on the interactive bow and arrow to see if they would be strong enough to be an archer.  They watched a film that illustrated how tough it would have been for the soldiers living on Hadrian’s Wall nearly 2000 years ago.
