This week, we did another experiment to understand what thermal insulators are. We used hot water in a beaker and surrounded it with different materials such as bubble wrap, foil and a scarf. We discussed why each one would make a good insulator. We measured them throughout the lesson as we wrote up our investigation and found that the scarf was the best insulator. The class concluded that this may be because it was thicker than the other materials and is designed to trap heat to keep us warm and it did the same to the water.
