This term, in Science, Class 5 are exploring the properties of materials. This week we did an experiment to understand the meaning of solubility. We had five different substances including sugar, salt, sand and hot chocolate. We used our understanding of the properties of these substances to predict whether they would dissolve (and therefore are soluble) or whether they are insoluble and would not dissolve in cold water. We were astonished to see sugar dissolve the quickest. We wondered if we would get the same results if we changed the temperature of the water next time.
