Powering The Future Project
As part of a ‘Powering up the Future’’ project that we are doing with the Centre for Life, we investigated gears and turbines. We discussed what renewable energy is and why we need to move towards it. We then talked about how a wind turbine works to make electricity. We explored how magnets and gears are used inside the turbine which generates electricity even when the turbine is turning slowly. We built out own gear box and looked into how each one interacted with the other, noticing whether they turn clockwise or anticlockwise and the number of rotations there are depending on the size of the gear. We explored how different sized gears rotated in correspondence with each other by using the following website too! https://javalab.org/en/gear_en/
