Finding Percentages
To help us understand percentages and know that they mean ‘parts out of 100’, the class used clear hundred square grids and placed them around the school building. They then calculated the percentage that that object took up within the grid e.g., 18 parts out of a hundred contained leaves, therefore 18% of the area was covered with leaves. They then used this knowledge to begin finding simple equivalents to fractions and decimals which we have been learning about over the last few weeks.
