Class 5 and the Year 5 pupils from Class 6 visited the Baltic Centre as part of their Art curriculum. Throughout the term, the children have been learning about the work of Barbara Hepworth and were given the opportunity to create their own sculptures inspired by the renowned artist. Following this, they viewed the kittiwakes — seabirds that feature on the Red List of threatened species — which are currently nesting on the side of the building. The children also had the chance to sample locally produced honey, as the Baltic is home to its own beehive. During their free time, they explored the centre’s various exhibitions and enjoyed discovering the wide range of artwork currently on display. It was a fantastic day of creativity, learning and exploration.
