This week, our Year 6 Dodgeball Team finished top of the Wednesday League at Bishop Barrington, after 7 matches over 3 weeks. The team were unbeaten and achieved an excellent 5 wins and 2 draws. Congratulations Zach A, Zack B, Drew, Ben, Carlton, Elliott and Carter for representing our school so well.
They now progress into finals at Bishop Barrington.
We are delighted to receive a letter from Damian Hinds, the Minister for Schools, congratulating us on our Phonics Screening Check results from last June which put us in the top 1% of schools nationally. A huge well done to all involved in making sure our children are super readers!
Our Key Stage 2 carol service at St. Mary and St. Stephen’s Church was a great success! The children did a wonderful job and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all!
The school council organised the Children in Need events this year raising a superb £423.44! They decided that everyone should come to school dressed in spots and they arranged an afternoon of table top games for the children to enjoy.
On Monday evening, our Y5/6 Tag Rugby team scored yet another victory playing the winners of the Bishop Auckland League at Parkside. Zach A, Carter and Finlay had the following report on the match:
“The game was tough and Toft Hill were a difficult team to play. We were ahead for most of the match, but actually came very close to losing it at the end. Fortunately, a pass to Ben allowed him to score a try and make it 11-11 with only seconds remaining. Extra time was tense, but the final score was 13-12 to Wolsingham. After winning against Toft Hill, we have made it to the County League Final!”
We look forward to our pupils competing at the County Finals at Consett Rugby club on the morning of March 18th.
Congratulations to our Y5/6 Tag Rugby team who have won the local league – recording 3 more wins this week. Our players were absolutely delighted to receive their gold medals after 3 weeks of tough competition. We are very proud of how these pupils have represented our school – not just with their success, but also with their sportsmanship and teamwork. They now progress to playing the overall winners of the Bishop Auckland league.
Our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils had an action-packed 3-day residential visit to Robinwood, Barhaugh Hall. They did many exciting activities including Trapeze, Zip Wire, Crate Challenge, Climbing, Raft Building, Canoeing, Caving, Giant Swing and Piranha Pool.
Despite the warm weather, our pupils never complained and received significant praise for their calm, sensible behaviour from the centre’s nighttime staff. While completing the activities, our pupils impressed their instructors with their excellent teamwork, effective communication and resilience and by encouraging their teammates to overcome their fears. It was an adventure to remember!

Our Year 5/6 cricket team did a fantastic job last night continuing their undefeated run and winning all three of their matches, becoming the league champions. They worked extremely well as a team, encouraging each other and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship with the other teams. A huge well done to the whole team!
We would like to wish Mrs Robertson good luck with her new adventure. We would like to say thank you for over 20 years of service as a lunch time supervisor, after school care supervisor and a classroom assistant.
