Soil Experiments

Over the last few years, we have been participating in a program led by Durham University into soils.  Today’s session was all about careers linked to soils.  The children had the chance to explore how different people work with soils in a range of careers including, flood and river specialist, sustainable farmer, geotechnical engineer and conservation scientist.  They each had to make judgments into how sandy and clay soils compared to each other as well as peat, and which soil would be best for the job needed. Class 5 were not afraid to get their hands dirty to investigate and had fun exploring the different roles!
