Visit to Jarrow Hall

Class 5 had a fantastic opportunity to explore the life of the Anglo-Saxons at Jarrow Hall this week.  In the morning, they explored the live farm which would have been situated next to a Saxon settlement and thought about how our ancestors would have used the animals in their daily life.  They then moved to a reconstructed village and had the chance to sit around a fire pit in a Saxon hut and listen to the tale of Beowulf. In the afternoon, the class ‘attended’ a burial of a Pagan Queen and a Monk to understand how religion changed across the era. Finally, the class were allowed to hold replica weapons that the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings would have battled with and then had their own Saxons v Viking fight! The children were brilliant and were fantastic at applying the learning that they have already undertaken in the subject to discussions! Thank you, Sarah and the team at Jarrow Hall!
