Have a look at what we’ve been learning…
KS2 Mini Olympics at Parkside Academy
KS2 were invited to take part in a mini-Olympic carousel at Parkside Academy. The children took part in throwing, running and jumping events. The event was brilliantly run by the Year 9 sports leaders and Mrs Inglis, a huge thank you to them. The children thoroughly enjoyed being at their first event outside of school this year!
Red Nose Day 2021
For Comic Relief, we all dressed up as superheroes.
Outdoor Adventures
Year 6 completed orienteering activities with Alice from OASES, who took the class for an afternoon of Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA). The children learnt how to use a compass and read a map, before putting these skills to the test. The children thoroughly enjoyed the orienteering part of the morning, setting their own course and navigating around the checkpoints.
Andy Warhol Lino Prints
Here are a selection of our completed lino prints. It was a tricky process – carving the lino, reverse printing the layers and rolling on the special paint – but our vibrant, multi-coloured, Warhol-inspired designs turned out great!
Christmas Crafts
For our Christmas crafts, we have assembled and decorated Santa and Rudolph puppets, created Xmas cards of a Christmassy scene coloured with pastels and made calendars based on “Sunflowers” by Van Gogh.
Andy Warhol Lino Prints
In Art and Design, we have been learning about what made Andy Warhol’s work so special. We have designed, carved and printed our own Warhol-inspired designs. We have learned the skills of safe lino carving and the skills of printing. Check back soon for some photos of our completed designs.
Computing
In Computing, we have been learning how to use the different functions of Microsoft PowerPoint in order to deliver a successful presentation. We have inserted and formatted photos, used transitions and animations and recorded and inserted sounds.
Electricity Experiments
We analysed six different circuit diagrams and ranked them in order of how bright we thought the bulb would be. We constructed the different circuits to test our predictions and tried to explain what we observed using our knowledge of voltage and current.
World War I Trenches
Year 6 have constructed some fantastic World War I trenches to show life on the Western Front. Most of our materials were re-used such as shoe boxes and teabags (used for sandbags and soil effect!). See if you can spot No-Man’s Land, barbed wire defences, sandbags or the parapet.
Remembrance Day
Year 6 have visited the cenotaph in Wolsingham Market Place to lay the school’s wreath. We remember and honour all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Lest we forget.
Cricket
Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed the cricket coaching sessions with Darren. This week they have been practising their batting, bowling and catching skills.
