Have a look at what we’ve been learning…
KS1 Sports Day
Key Stage 1 made use of the dry weather this morning by having their sports day. Unfortunately, because of the current restrictions in place, the only audience they had were a group of ducks but this didn’t dampen spirits! Staying in their bubbles the Year 1 and Year 2 children worked hard for points for their colour teams. They had to compete in a bean bag throw, a football dribble, an obstacle course, the wheelbarrow race and many more fun games. Everyone had a fantastic time and tried their very best and they all enjoyed an ice lolly at the end. The teachers would like to say a very big well done to each and everyone one of them!
Postcards
In English, Year 1 learnt the features of postcards. Following our visit to Low Barnes Nature Reserve, they wrote a postcard to tell someone about the visit. The children performed their writing in front of a green screen to make an e-postcard of their visit. Click here to watch their videos.
Low Barnes
On Monday, the Year 1 children spent the day at Low Barnes Nature Reserve as part of their science work on plants and animals. They spent the morning pond dipping and hunting for minibeasts in a woodland habitat. They found lots of interesting creatures. After lunch they walked around the nature reserve looking for wild flowers and were amazed at how many different types of wild flower they found. Finally they spent some time bird-watching in one of the bird hides. The children were very excited to see baby swans and a woodpecker.
The staff at Low Barnes were very impressed with the behaviour, manners and knowledge of all the Year 1 children.
Christmas Party Time!
Year 1 had a fantastic time at their Christmas party. They enjoyed playing Christmas Corners, Musical Statues, Musical Chairs and Pass the Parcel. There are some fabulous dancers in Year 1 too. While we were in the hall a mysterious visitor came into the classroom and left some presents for the children. I wonder who it could have been?
Panda Morfo
Year 1 found out lots of interesting facts about pandas. Then they wrote sentences about pandas. The children used the Morfo Booth app to make a morfo of a panda then recorded their sentences about pandas. Click here to see the videos of their work.
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
In the Year 1 curriculum a key objective for reading is to retell familiar stories in their own words. This week we read the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children knew the story really well so we used the Puppet Pals app on the iPads to retell the story in our own words. Click here to watch our videos. We hope you enjoy watching them.
Autumn Walk
Year 1 went for a walk to look for signs of autumn. They found red, orange, yellow and brown leaves and lots of berries and conkers. This is part of their science work where they talk about seasonal changes.
They had a great time, especially jumping in the muddy puddles.
