Purpose of Funding
Schools have to spend their School Sports Grant funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Possible uses for funding include, but are not limited to:
- Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside classroom teachers when delivering PE.
- New or additional Change 4 Life sports and activity clubs.
- Paying for staff professional development opportunities in PE/sport
- Paying for cover for staff to take part in professional development opportunities linked to PE/sport.
- Running sporting competitions or increasing participation in the School Games.
- Providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs or holiday clubs.
- Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport.
- Purchasing equipment to enhance provision in PE / sport.
At Wolsingham Primary School, we strive to promote healthy and active lifestyles and aim to provide sporting opportunities for all our pupils.
In 2020,
- 86% of Year 6 children could swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- 86% of Year 6 children could use a range of strokes effectively
- 71% of Year 6 children could perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
Summer/Autumn/Spring 2019/20
Allocated funding = £8,894, plus additional funding (Sports Premium Plus) £8,896 = £17,790, plus carry forward from 2018-19 of £8,867 = £26,657

Continuation of Daily Mile for ALL children in school, including all EYFS children. | Development of events to encourage daily mile. | £0 | Whilst school was open all children completed the daily mile every lunch time unless there was bad weather. Children come into lessons more alert in the afternoon. | In order to maintain interest, continue to set the children targets. These could be class based. |
Continuation of scooter sessions at lunchtimes. (Autumn 1, Spring 2 and all Summer term). | Purchase more scooter equipment. Carry out risk assessment review and organisation of sessions. | £500 | Scooters have continued to work well with the children thoroughly enjoying them (Y4 and below more so than Y5-6). Y6s do however enjoy the responsibility of setting up the scooters. Children more energized in the afternoons allows children chance to take part in a different activity and helps children in R-Y2 with their balance and co-ordination. | If participation further up the school continues to be poor give those lower down the school more opportunities to play on the scooters. More ramps to add variety to the course. |
Replenish and update PE resources. | Update gymnastics resources. Look at new resources needed to support the teaching and learning of some sports, e.g. badminton. | £3000 | New PE equipment bought throughout the year such as; new bibs, spots, tag rugby belts, footballs, tchoukball nets and balls etc. More kit such as badminton and gymnastic mats were to be bought however school closure prevented this. Allows children to take part in a wider variety of activities and after school clubs. Resources can be used to further develop skills e.g. tchoukball nets for catching and throwing. Pupil Voice- our Healthy Action Group within school meets regularly to discuss PE, School sport and healthy life styles. | Children assigned roles within the action group. Ensure staff have necessary training to deliver the curriculum effectively. Focus on whole school gymnastics and OAA training. | PE leads to organise whole school training for all staff. Staff to feel more confident deliver all aspects of the PE curriculum. | £1000 | OAA training was planned at Hamsterley Forest through OASES, however due to school closure never took place. Dance and gymnastics training was also scheduled to take place however we were unable to get cover for certain classes. | Possible training next year however OASES are now operating with less staff due to COVID-19 will need to enquire about next year. |

Raise awareness and provide experience of new sports and physical activities provided for all children. | PE leads to plan 2 new sport experiences (for the whole school), with links to community clubs. Continue yoga sessions in curriculum time and as an afterschool club. | £1500 £3700 (37 weeks at £100 per week) | Judo taster session in school in Autumn term from Judo GB. Gave chn the opportunity to try a new sport. Trips to Spennymoor pink gym and rock climbing centres were to be planned however school closure prevented these. Yoga session finished in Autumn 1 due to yoga instructor going on maternity leave. Funding of fees for CVL leagues | School to participate in local CVL football events. | £100 | Boys and Girls’ teams took part in the league. Y3/4 league was planned for Summer term but due to school closures did not go ahead. Boys and girls’ teams taking part in competitive sport-built comradery and built confidence in their ability particularly the girls’ team. | This will depend on the government guidance for next year for sporting events. |
Funding of transport to allow as many children as possible to attend as many different sports competitions as possible. | Attend most competitions provided through School Games and local organisations. PE Lead to monitor attendance and provide opportunity, where possible, for more than 1 team to represent the school. | £4750 (15 competitions in the year @ £250 per bus and x4 finals buses @ £250 each) | Attended 4 school games events (Y3-6), 1 Hoops 4 Health event, 1 tag rugby tournament and 1 cluster festival.
